If you use Adblock Plus, you may want to support your favorite YouTube authors by allowing ads on their channels. Unfortunately, Adblock Plus can only whitelist pages based on their URL, and YouTube video URLs don't include any information about the video's author. That's where this script comes in: wherever possible, video links will be rewritten to include this information, so that you can create a whitelist filter in Adblock Plus.

Known issues
Sometimes, rewriting links isn't possible (e.g. links to YouTube videos on third-party sites). In these instances, once the video page loads, it will reload a second time with the author information added to the URL. If you press the browser's Back button once, the page will reload again as described above. As a workaround, Right-click or Left-click and hold in order to bring up the Back button's history menu and skip to the previous page before the video page.

Other problems
Please post about them on the Adblock Plus forum (you can post without registering).

Instructions

  1. Presumably you already have Adblock Plus, or else you wouldn't be reading this.
    https://adblockplus.org
  2. If you've never installed user scripts before, first get the appropriate extension for your browser.
    https://gf.qytechs.cn/help/installing-user-scripts
  3. Click the Install This Script button near the top of this page, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Visit the …/user/videos page of the author you want to support (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/user/TotalHalibut/videos) and copy the user name portion of the URL to the clipboard. You need to use that as part of your whitelist filter in Adblock Plus.
  5. In Firefox, click the Adblock Plus icon and choose Filter Preferences.
In Chrome or Opera, click the Adblock Plus icon and choose Options.
  6. In Firefox, click the Custom Filters tab.
In Chrome or Opera, click the Add Your Own Filters tab.
  7. In Firefox, if no filters are visible, first right-click any of the custom filter categories and choose Show/Hide Filters. Afterwards, click the Add Filter button, type the following filter, paste the user name in the appropriate spot, then press the Enter key.
In Chrome or Opera, type the following filter into the text box near the top, paste the user name in the appropriate spot, then click the Add Filter button.
