Auto select the lowest available quality of videos (more eco-friendly, and you can still manually select a higher resolution when needed)
I tried several browser extensions or scripts to force a specific Youtube quality, but I didn't found one that was working in all cases or almost... With this one I chose to be dumb and just simulate the user selecting the video quality using the settings button at the bottom of the video. It seems to work. In my case I just wanted to automatically choose the lowest available quality (especially suitable when listening to music videos), and still be able to manually increase the resolution when needed... of course. It works with English, French and Spanish interfaces, and certainly does not work with many other languages.
I hope Youtube will understand one day that the "Best possible quality depending on your bandwith" behavior is not necessarily the best choice, at least not for everybody.
Update v2: you can also define a preferred quality, such as '240' or '360'
